Editorial standards

Money pages are held to a higher standard, and should be. These are the rules every page on this site is written to.

Sources

  • Every rate, amount, term, fee and eligibility rule is taken from a primary source: the lender’s own page or terms, the regulator (FCA, Bank of England), the British Business Bank scheme, HMRC, Companies House or the relevant statute.
  • Every figure is linked and dated: the page we read and the day we read it. Rows carry both inline; guides link their sources in the text.
  • We do not cite other comparison sites, forums or press coverage as the source of a figure. A press report is a lead to the primary page, not a substitute for it. A figure seen only on a third party’s page goes in a clearly marked “still verifying” list until we confirm it.
  • Where a lender does not publish something we say “not published” or “priced per quote”. We do not estimate, extrapolate or fill gaps from memory.

Information, not advice

Businesses Funding publishes information and comparisons. It does not give financial advice, does not recommend a product for your circumstances, and is not authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority. A representative APR is what at least 51% of accepted borrowers get, not what you will be offered; a lender’s own quote is the only figure that binds. Where a decision needs regulated advice we say so and point you to it. Nothing on the site should be read as an inducement to borrow from a particular lender.

Who writes it

Pages are edited by Sam Allcock, a business owner who is not a financial adviser, and his profile says exactly that, with public records linked so you can check. Pages without a personal byline are attributed to Businesses Funding as an organisation.

Tools and human review

We use software, including AI tools, to monitor lenders’ pages for changes, to draft, and to check internal consistency. Each month an automated check re-reads every published figure against its source page; a figure that no longer matches is flagged for review, and a changed rate is only published once it has been approved. Software does not change a published rate on its own.

Independence

Lenders do not see copy before publication and cannot pay to be included, excluded, moved or reworded. Domain Farm Ltd may be paid a fee by a broker when someone asks to be introduced through Find a lender; that is disclosed on every page that offers it, and it has no say in the tables, their order or their wording. The rules are on how we make money.

Images

Photographs are library images, credited, and chosen only where they show the kind of business the page is about. Where nothing relevant exists the page has no photograph. Lender logos are used as supplied by the lender, only to identify it, never to imply endorsement.

Corrections

If we have something wrong, write to editor@businessesfunding.co.uk and tell us what, and if you can, where the correct figure is published. We check it against the source, correct the page and update the “checked” date. We do not correct silently: where an error was material, such as a rate, a fee or an eligibility rule, a dated note stays on the page saying what changed.

Updates

Every row shows the date it was last read against its source and is re-checked at least monthly. Guides show the date they were last reviewed; check the lender’s current page before acting on any figure.

Complaints

If you believe we have breached these standards and a correction has not resolved it, write to the editor at the address above with “Complaint” in the subject line.
